Adam the Bird Saver
May. 17th, 2004 08:38 amCats are, by nature, hunters. And as nature incites them to do, they hunt. As of late, Fatboy has taken to killing birds, mostly Bluebirds. Now, in case you don't know, Bluebirds are becoming more and more rare, but cat's are really knowing.
So Fatboy and Lily continue to torment this little Bluebird while Adam is out on the porch talking to Kristi. He sees the exchange, takes a shirt of his, and rescues the bird from Lily.
The real reason why he did this is pretty unknown to me. He's never gone out of his way to rescue an animal that the cats have caught before. I think that's it's mainly because Kristi, although she loves our cats, hates the fact that they kill birds for food. [Yet, she still eats chicken. Go figure.] So it's quite possible that Adam saved the bird so that Kristi wouldn't be upset.
Another reason could be that our neighbor and birdwatcher, Freddie, despises our cats, (for more than one reason). Many years ago, before we moved here, he had been scratched by a cat and could do nothing about it. (He has Muscular Distrophy and has been in a wheelchair since he was a teen.) Also, he loves to watch birds, and when a cat kills a bird, he gets rather upset. So Adam might have helped the bird because of Freddie.
Or...he might have just done it out of the kindness of his heart. *shrugs*
At any rate, He put the bird in a blue box with the shirt and left it in the shed. None of us really thought the bird would live til the morning.
Then, when I got up at an ungodly hour for no reason at all, I read the note Mom left us: "...You may have saved the bird- I checked on it this AM- it was lively and it flew off easily towards John C's house. :)"
My brother, defender of the fowls.
