Clay, baby!
Oct. 20th, 2004 12:35 pmFirst of all, the concert was fantastic. I can't say that enough. We were in the 11th row, and if I had really wanted to, I could have run up and gotten to Clay. But I managed to restrain myself. (The 6'5", 400 pound, African-American bodyguard "Jeroime" might have had something to do with it too.)
The funniest thing was that I was not the most fanatic person there. In fact, I'd go as far as to say that I was the tamest! Most of the nuttiest people there were all over the age of 45. Scary, neh? The girls my age were very civil in comparison. The older ladies literally had everything Clay-ified. Purses, earrings, hats, buttons, shirts...etc. If their underwear had Clay on them I would not be surprised.
But back to the concert. It was fantastic, I loved seeing him jump around on stage and sing. The boy is lanky as a twig! I knew he was thin, but in person...wow, he's skinny. (But still very sexy, I don't care what you say. :P) He sang a lot of oldies, mostly James Taylor, along with some of the songs from his album. After he sang "Invisible", he said good-night, but came out for an encore of "Solitare".
Some of the cooler parts of the show were when he took the spotlight off of himself and he let his three backup singers take the lime light. They each sang short little solos, and they were fantastic as well. I was really impressed. They all did a version of a James Taylor song where he and one of the backup singers literally held the last note for about thirty seconds...Holy shit.
He also knew every crew worker by name, and introduced them all to the audience. (Awwwwwwwwww...)
He also talked about some of the programs he was working with to help disabled children and children with illnesses. Plus, the boy is damn hilarious.
Hands down, the best birthday present ever. I had such an amazing time, it still hasn't really sunk in how close I was to Clay in person. I guess it's because I don't really think of him as that big of a star, he's just a great guy from Raleigh.
Who can sing. Damn, can he sing.
