Somewhere Short of Oblivion
Jan. 16th, 2026 02:31 pm Decided to take today off from work because that would extend my already long weekend, and classes start back up Tuesday. I decided I needed an extra day to sleep in and do things not work or school related.
Didn't get to sleep in really because Mom came by a little after ten to drop off some Brunswick stew she bought from a lady at church. I chucked it in the fridge and plopped down in my chair in the living room and got under the heated blanket. Mowgli accompanied me after chowing down on some treats. I fell asleep and at some point heard a cat that was not Mowgli, who was still perched on the arm of my chair at this point. Heather's cat, Gizmo had made his way upstairs, and because I'd left the door open he helped himself to whatever was left on Mowgli's plate. Soon I heard the door open again and looked up, I saw Heather's reflection in a picture frame and she had rescued the interloper before either Mowgli or I really registered that he was there. I must have been snoring pretty good, because she didn't say 'hi' or 'bye' just grabbed the kitten and left.
I like sharing an apartment house with my two best friends. It's funny sometimes.
I am kind of kicking myself for two things last night though. One, I could have done some laundry because Dottie was spending the night at her parent's house. (My laundry room is in a makeshift closet above her bedroom. There's no insulation to speak of and she has extra perceptive hearing so she hear anything I do up there. And she gets extra annoyed if I do laundry after 9 p.m. (Can't blame her. I would be too if I lived downstairs instead.)
Anyway. I forgot where I was going with all of this. I ended up having to answer texts from my mom and my friend Mel which led me to going down to Dottie's to borrow her tire air pressure thing and putting air in my tires. One was seriously low but the tread was still really good so it's probably a slow leak. Doesn't surprise me as all of them have been slowly leaking- I've already replaced two of them.
Anywho. So now I think I'm going to wrap this up and gather up some trash so it looks like I've done something today before I plop back down in the chair and read some of my songwriting magazines. Yay fun!
I also want some more grape soda. Hmm.
Until next time...
